What If - 25 Years Later - 4
Days Later
"Good news ..." Antonio began
has he walked into her hospital room. He was about to keep going but noticed
the breathing tube coming out of her mouth and eyes shut. It's how they make
you look 'comfortable' before you die. He lingered around the doorway for a
while watching her, then noticed the TV was on NBC. She must have been waiting
to see Genevieve run in the Olympics. He went and turned the TV up a little
more, then went to her bedside and covered her arms. Janine always complained
about white people and how they're always hot when Black people are freezing to
death. With that thought, he smirked, then took a seat in the chair next to her
bed just to sit and watch TV as if she were awake and watching with him.
Antonio sat the entire day
and was readying himself to spend the night. Why? Guilt. Once the Olympics went
off for the night, he was forced to wonder if his son was right. Was he the
reason his best friend was dying? The negligence, affairs, name-calling,
and appalling behavior that he'd stressed her with, not to mention
that children she'd reared almost alone, was something he would need to pay for
one day and this was it. Regret. Regret at it's finest. As Antonio was about to
lean back in his chair to attempt sleep, the doctor walked in, "tests came
back clean ... We can schedule the transplant for tomorrow."
Relief washed over Antonio
but not enough. The organs have to take. He only nodded, "my thanks to
you. You will be compensated adequately."
The doctor smiled. The
money Antonio was giving him to essentially wake the dead, was enough to retire
him. "Goodnight Mr. Bovin."
He nodded,
"Doctor," then closed his eyes.
10 Days Later
Antonio came through for the first time in years. He
delivered a compatible set of lungs that Janine was immediately transplanted
with once necessary tests were run. After the initial surgery, she was placed
in a coma with breathing tube and monitored in ICU for a few days before they
found that her body was accepting. Out of her coma and breathing on her own,
she was about to sneak out of her bed to go to the window, but got back in when
she heard the door. Turning to the door, she smiled, "you're back."
Maddox walked into her room with an
envelope, "hi..." he smirked.
"You have amazing timing ... Or you're nosey."
Janine sat herself up.
"Surprised?"
Nodding, "actually yes." She waited until he walked
in further, "I have 2 huge scars on my back."
"In pain?" He looked down at
her and hugged her.
"I feel dead but slowly coming back
around. It's essentially what happened after the coma so I shouldn't be
surprised." She rubbed his back.
"Gotcha, yea i had to make sure i checked on you before
my tour." He sat in a chair and placed an envelope he was holding on her
lap.
She looked at the envelope and started to open it. "Please
tell me they're front row tickets for my baby."
"Not yet, this is for you and the twins. I know they
don't need me, but I need them. I would love to be a part of their lives."
"What is this? A letter?"
"Its investment money for them and
an all expenses paid trip for you and 2 of your girlfriends to Spain ..."
"Thank you. I'll give it to them." She looked at
the stuff, put it back in the envelope and on the stand next to get bed,
"how long is the tour for?"
"Well this portion is for two months then I break for a
week them off to south America."
Nodding, "traveling sounds fun. I may do a bit after my
recovery ... See if I can bribe any of my kids into going with me."
He smiled, "I told Sasha I found you here."
"You're ex wife?" She took a deep breath, "the
lifestyle of a superstar didn't work for her?"
"Nope. She hated it and cheated because I wasn’t
home."
"I can't say i would go that route but i doubt i could
handle that either. My husband never being home ... Been through that already
... I know how bad it is."
"yes, but she was foul and i always offered to fly her
to where i was."
"Well i'm sorry ... For the divorce and abortion."
She grinned, "I've seen a little you running around and it's funny."
"Oh yea? How so? Tell me about it.
"Big mouths on both of them. Lucky
wasn’t concerned with looking good but Elle was. Lucky did, however, like to
flaunt everything he had. Lucky was given his first pack of condoms as a gift,
from me, when he was 13. He was embarrassed. I wanted him to be safe. Jiselle,
at an early age, was a smart ass but the sweetest thing in the world. Whenever
one of them got in trouble, they both went down trying to cover for the other
... They are fiercely protective of each other, even as adults." She
paused, "and when they were babies ... God ..." Laughing, she pointed
to a black photo album, "you can take that. Has pictures in it from babies
up until college graduation."
"I would love that..."
"It's yours. You can take it when you get ready to go.
So tell me what the world looks like right now," shaking her head,
"I've been here for months and can't wait to get out. Wait, is your father
still evil?"
"He’s still an asshole. He'll never change ... What have
the twins said about me?"
"Absolutely nothing. Like you never showed up," she
sighed, "to me at least. They've talked with AJ, though. They like that
they look like you but don't know if getting to know you, at their age, is
important."
"Man, if love to fly them out to Europe to hang out a
little bit."
"I'll talk to them after we get back
from London."
"you're going too London? For what?
Just curious."
"Yes. In 2 days. Just in time to see Gigi run. 400
meters. They haven't even started the heats for the races yet so I'm in
luck."
"Nice..." He paused, "I'm
so proud of you. You did good."
She smiled, "thank you. I appreciate it. I should thank
you also. Lucky is a hedge fund manager. I know he got that from you. Antonio's
graduation present to him was hooking him up with his own business. He had a
probationary period to see how he would handle it but things have been going
well. It's grown quite a bit the last 2 years. Jiselle gets her talent from
you. I was a dancer and the baby can't dance so," she laughed, "she
plays piano for the New York Philharmonic and teaches classical piano at NYU. She
definitely didn't get that from me," she smiled again.
"That's damn good to know, i have my
own club chain as well, you know?"
She nodded, "I've been to the one in LA. During my
affair-turned-boyfriend." Nodding again, "we went and it was really
nice."
"you have a boyfriend now? Where's he been?"
"He's my ex now. Has been for the past year. We dated
the last 2 years of my marriage and 3 after."
"Oh wow cheating on the ball and
chain? Not like you Janine."
"True. I lasted longer than I expected considering all I
dealt with during my marriage. It was ... Terrible. Really terrible," she
paused, "Antonio was ... " Janine stopped again, searching for the
correct choice of word, "horrible to me. But I tried to fix it. I tried
when he wouldn't or didn't want to."
"How ironic..." He sighed,
"Sorry that happened, and for everything I put you through. You're
fantastic and i look forward to a friendship with you and the twins." He kissed her forehead and them looked at his watch. "I
have to be going," he said a little sad.
"Stay safe. And it was good to see you."
"i will take care you..." He
winked at her, waved and smiled as he walked out.

My Christmas List
Hey there ladies ... What will YOU be asking Santa for this year?
As for me ...
Dear Santa,
I never ask for anything so therefore I'm going to ask for a lot. Some of this may seem impossible to accomplish, but if you can get your fat ass down a chimney then maybe anything is possible after all. First, please send me Matthew Gray Gubler or someone who looks and speaks exactly as he does. He should know how to play chess and have patience enough to teach me. Second, I would like some Jason Momoa. Make sure that he is wearing eyeliner and looks really menacing. That turns me on. Third, a Samsung Galaxy S III. MetroPCS has it now and it's only $500. I'm sure you could make one at your workshop for free and send it to me. Fourth, I need for the TV show Scandal to not be on break. That show turns me into a crack addict so I really need to not wait until January to see any new episodes. Fifth, Ryan Lochte is pretty hot. I'll take him but I really don't need him to be talking about anything. So if you send a duplicate, it's fine if he's a mute. Sixth, I'll take Idris Elba. Nuff said. Seventh, a Kindle Paperwhite. My current gen1 Kindle is great but the battery life is dying out ... Plus, the Paperwhite has a light! That way, I can read while at the movies. Eight, a teacup pomeranian. They're so freaking cute! Plus, I don't think my honker of a cat would eat it. Ninth, 5 inch platform pumps that don't hurt and won't make me fall on my face. Santa, you know that it's not easy being hot when you're plus sized. Albeit, I'm not plus sized, but I'm not skinny either. I'm stuck in the middle. So with that said, being over 6 feet tall is my dream. Right now, I'm 5'10'' and looking to up the anty in the new year. Make it happen. Tenth, a Starbucks gift card. Duh!
Thanks A Lot,
Deva

Seconds of Pleasure
I was listening to an old favorite. The song is below. Listen while you read. I decided to do something short, sweet and very mushy. Lol. It just came to me while listening to this. Comments are welcome.
-----------------------------
He’d
found his opening. Getting word through a mutual friend, she’d found a new
place and was setting it up. Jeremiah hadn’t spoken to Janine in 6 months. He
was ashamed, sorry and ready to grovel but decided to take his mothers advice. “Don’t talk. If you talk, it gives her a
chance to turn you down … Whatever it is,” she told her son, “don’t talk. Just
do. Women like actions more than words. Show her you’re sincere. Show her you’re
sorry. Show her you messed up. Show her you love her.” So he was planning
on doing just that. No movies to make. No contact with his agent. This was just
about her. Now standing on the 20th floor of her apartment building,
he passed a mover on his way out and caught a glimpse of Janine as she tipped
the man and closed her apartment door. He walked up to the door and knocked.
Janine pulled it open quickly, thinking the movers had returned for something
but saw Jeremiah standing there. He said nothing, just stared her in the eye.
Janine didn’t breathe. She didn’t move. Just looked. The one she’d been
avoiding for months because she didn’t want to cry in front of him.
Strengthening her resolve, she lifted her chin and took a breath, expecting to
hear his bullshit. Jeremiah innocently looked at her from head to toe, then put
one hand in the pocket of his khakis. The other dangled nervously by his side.
The quiet stand off didn’t last much longer. Jeremiah put his head down a
little, then looked inside her new apartment, then into her eyes, “let’s go for
a drive.” Janine squinted a little, confused. ‘He dumped me 5 minutes before I
was to walk down the aisle and now he’s here asking to take a drive? What?’ She
thought to herself and then slightly rolled her eyes, ready to close the door.
He spoke up, “you don’t have to say anything. Just come with me.” He made sure
his voice was strong. He wanted her to know that he was sure about what he was
not saying, was saying, and doing. Knowing how Janine had been keeping to
herself since the almost-wedding, maybe the silence would be good. As long as
she was silent with him. Janine turned her head slightly to look at her new
place. She didn’t have anything lined up as she wasn’t ready to face the
public. And now she was thinking about going. A deep loud sigh escaped her,
then she slowly backed up, leaving the door open and started walking to her
bedroom, “where are we driving to?” She asked as she walked away but Jeremiah
didn’t enter the apartment to follow her. He hadn’t gotten an invitation and he
was already pushing his luck. “I don’t know,” he answered. She stopped
momentarily. The fact that he had no set destination gave Janine pause but not
in a bad way. Jeremiah was a planner. So no plan meant unbridled spontaneity. And
since he had no destination, Janine continued in her room and packed a large
duffle bag. The only communication she packed was her cell phone and charger.
With a quick text to her parents and closest friends, she picked up her purse,
set the alarm on the apartment and gave Jeremiah her bag. They left.
The two
of them hit the road. Jeremiah drove his Lincoln Mark LT while Janine sat in
the passenger seat. Leaned back with the window slightly down, she kept quiet
as they drove to nowhere. When it was dark out, Jeremiah stopped in a major
city at a hotel. He booked 1 room. Not a suite, just a plain room. He opted for
the closeness of a standard room as opposed to a multi-room suite. Still saying
nothing to each other, only reading each others body language, they relaxed
themselves, then ordered up dinner. They ate in silence and messed around the
room. He could tell Janine was trying to keep her hands busy to keep her mind
off of him and what was happening. He knew she would abandon that soon enough.
She had to come to grips with being with him after she vowed she would never
again. And at that moment, Jeremiah realized that his mother was right. Her
plan was working. The silence of the small hotel room allowed Janine thinking
time. Yes, she’d had plenty while she was hold up at her parents house crying
after the wedding, but this was different. She was forced to be in the confines
of a small room with the one who’d changed her life in so many ways. Her mind
had to be on him, her mind had to be conscious of how her body reacted to him
being close but so far away. Every now and then, Janine would glance at him,
then the bed, and walk towards it, sitting on the side with her back to him.
She was freshly showered and dressed in a tank top and panties. She wouldn’t
change what she slept in just because he was close by. He knew her. The
paparazzi had documented everything. The Oscar winning movie star, Jeremiah
Tanner, who was in love with the most famous famous person in the US, Janine
The Princess. Every high and low they tried to hide would always come out and
she knew this would be no different. It was only a matter of time before
someone sees them together and Janine would have to pick her face up off of the
ground all over again. First, he’d called off the wedding 5 minutes before it
was to start … Only walking in her dressing room to tell her he was sorry. He
didn’t have to say more than that. She knew what was going on … He wasn’t
ready. He’d lied to her again about being ready. She left that church with the
intent of never giving him another chance. Pushing those thoughts from her
mind, she got under the covers and closed her eyes. Jeremiah showered, threw on
some boxers and came to bed. He turned off the light and closed the curtain,
then got in beside her. Careful not to touch her, he stared at her back until
he fell asleep.
3 weeks
lost to aimless driving. Still with no destination, but stopping at random
places, the tension had finally begun to ease. Janine no longer felt like she
was carrying weight. She felt fresh and new. No frown in place, only a look of
contentment. She still wasn’t sure how she felt but what Jeremiah was doing was
working. She felt more open to him at that moment than she had even when they
were engaged. He’s giving her space while wordlessly stating that he wanted
her, wasn’t giving up, and would win this fight. Yea. He was winning. They were
about a mile out of the California coast. It was early evening, right before
sunset. Van Hunt’s Seconds Of Pleasure
was playing in the car and he had his right hand gently massaging the back of
Janine’s neck. Her eyes closed, then he stopped. Right after, she felt his hand
graze over hers. Left hand on the steering wheel and right hand on top of her
left, he slipped his fingers between hers. When their fingers were intertwined,
Janine gave a small squeeze, physically saying it was ok to do. It felt good.
Everything felt right. And even though things were perfect, she was scared.
This was try number 3 for them … If she could call this a try. First, a
pregnancy scare that sent Jeremiah running, then the non-wedding and now this.
If they got back together this time, would it be doomed? A part of her didn’t
think so. She’d never spent so much time not talking to her Love but knowing
everything that was going on in his head. This was new. The connection was
fresh. Stronger. The pull was almost erotic and they had yet to even kiss.
The
small beach front property was familiar to Janine. This was Jeremiah’s get away
for them when they both had free time. He took the bags into the house. Janine
followed slowly behind, taking in the beach during sunset. Jeremiah stuck his head
out of the house, wanting her to come in first. She finally followed him inside
where they both changed into bathing gear. Janine in a one-piece with the back
out and Jeremiah in a simple pair of board shorts. Janine walked out first,
taking her hair down to let the wind do what it wanted with it. Slowly, she
stepped through the sand, loving the feel. Although she was a New York girl, a
little sun, sand and warmth couldn’t hurt. Stopping at the shore line, she
watched the remained of the sun set. Jeremiah came up behind her, standing
close. His shorts rode low on his waist, exposing the V from his abs to the
inside of his shorts. His chest brushed up against Janine’s back, then both
hands circled her waist, gently pulling her to him to close the already small
distance. Janine sighed outwardly and leaned her head back on his chest. They
stood until the sun finished setting. Jeremiah kissed the top of Janine’s head,
then gently turned her around. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly despite the waves
roaring behind them. Janine didn’t look at him. She slightly shook her head and
turned it away from him. With his hand, he gently turned her face to look at
him. Her eyes were glistening. Damn, he didn’t want her to cry, not after their
quiet reconciliation. “I was stupid. I thought I wasn’t ready. I was miserable
every day after that. Everything I did to you …” He put his forehead to hers, “I
was a fucking idiot, Janine. I’m so sorry. You don’t have to forgive me now,
don’t have to take me back now … Just don’t put that distance between us again.”
It was
over. Janine conceded. She nodded and they hugged, holding each other for an indiscriminate amount of time. Going back into the beach house, they took separate showers and
then came together in the kitchen. Together they cooked. Well … Janine cooked
while Jeremiah pretended to cook. She had a smile in her eyes and Jeremiah a
smile on his face. After dinner was eaten and the small kitchen was cleaned,
they went to bed. The bedroom was equally as small and that was fine by their
standards. They wanted the closeness. The king sized bed took up a nice portion
of the room, the large window took up an entire wall, while a floor length
mirror and small dresser adorned the rest of the room. Simplicity. Whenever
they visited, Janine liked sleeping with the curtain open. That night was no
different. She laid on the side closest to the window wearing one of Jeremiah’s
button downs and boy cut panties underneath. Jeremiah wore his standard boxers,
but pulled Janine close to him just like when they were on the beach earlier. She
moved willingly. Spooning. She always loved how her body would tuck itself into
his. Looking out, Janine felt Jeremiah’s hand rubbing along her arm, then a
kiss on her shoulder. Gently and slowly, he reached around and unbuttoned one
of the top buttons of the shirt she was wearing … Just enough to expose her
shoulder. Kissing her bare shoulder, he let it linger to see if she would
protest. When she didn’t, he moved it upward to her neck, and finally her ear.
Janine’s breathing changed and her eyes closed. She was ready. It was always
that easy for those two. She laid herself on her back as Jeremiah moved to get
on top of her. Leaning down, he kissed her. Soft. Sweet. Passionate.
Meaningful. Now removing Janine’s panties, he dropped them on side of the bed
and unbuttoned the shirt as he attached his lips to her neck. With the shirt
open, he slipped out of his own boxers, then into Janine.
The two
tangled that night. Neither had been satisfied since the last time they were together.
When satisfaction and contentment registered, sleep took over.
Morning.
A slow sunrise. Janine was always the first to respond to the sunrise while at
the beach house. Her eyes opened and she momentarily shielded them with her
left hand, only to notice a familiar ring. As Janine slept that night after
their reunion, Jeremiah went to his luggage and got out the engagement ring she’d
previously worn. She picked it out. She loved it. There was no need to get a
new one. Accompanying the engagement ring was the wedding band she was to wear.
Turning her head, she looked at Jeremiah’s left hand and there was the mate on
his finger. She thought about waking him up to ask about it but there was no
point. Again, she conceded, but this time, she knew she had him and he had her.

What If - 25 Years Later - 3
PART 3
Later
A few more minutes of
one-sided small talk took place when the hospital door opened. Aj walked in
first, followed by Jiselle with her 1 year old daughter, Genevieve followed,
then Lucky with a 2 month old. A moment later, Gigi passed out. Why? The shock
of Maddox Ames in. her mothers hospital room. While AJ dealt with her, Lucky
saw him sitting there, then looked at the clothes he was wearing. Same damn outfit,
just different colors. "Awkward ..." Jiselle eyed him, then kissed
Janine on the cheek.
Maddox smiled at them and raised his brows at Gigi. He then looked
to Janine, "i thought you only had 2 children?"
'2 more.' She wrote, then
continued, 'Elle, Lucky, AJ, and Gigi.' Janine showed it to Maddox, then erased
and wrote, 'bio dad to twins.' She showed it to the kids.
"wait,
they're mine?" Maddox looked at her and then the twins.
"We
finally meet," Lucky switched his baby to the other arm, kissed Janine,
then held the kid close to her so she could kiss the baby as well.
"Well I be
damn ..." He stood, "you look just like me." Then he looked to
Janine, "when you never contacted me to come visit Memphis, I just thought
you got an abortion."
'Was busy being
depressed,' she wrote.
"Mom told
all of us about you." Jiselle took a seat. "Our dad is a superstar.
And our mother has cancer," she sighed.
"I see,
Well I'm very happy to meet you guys. Sorry I wasn’t around. That's very shitty
of me," he turned to Janine, "so two lungs, huh?"
"Could i
please ..." Gigi finally regained herself, "have a picture and a
kiss?"
"NO!"
The twins and AJ said in unison.
Maddox laughed,
"how about a hug and a picture?"
"oh my God
ok!" She rushed over with her phone and handed it to AJ, then posed. After
the picture was taken, she kissed her mom and sat on the bed, "i'm totally
facebooking this!"
"So again,
2 lungs? Is that all you need to live, sweetheart?"
"Dad is
getting them for her," Gigi told him.
"What
brings you by?" Lucky asked.
"I was
visiting my ex wife down the hall, and saw your moms name on the door ..."
He looked to Janine, "I can get them to you in two days," he spoke of
the lungs.
"Black Market?"
AJ asked.
"No, not black market. From Italy."
"Dad is getting
them," Gigi repeated
"We already ..."
Jiselle started.
Janine held up get board,
'flight time?'
"10 for us."
Lucky answered, "Gigi leaves at 7."
"I can stay another
day or week," she smiled.
"Don't you dare miss
it," Janine warned in a small voice, then looked to Maddox, "It's fine," Janine told him.
"Tests. Needs to be compatible." She reached out for Lucky's baby and
smiled as he was put in Janine's lap. "This is Lucas ..." Then she
nodded to Jiselle's 1 year old, "that's Carmen."
"Ok, wow, I'm a
grandpa. Can I hold him?"
Janine glanced
at Lucky who gave her a nod, then she looked at Maddox and nodded.
Later
Maddox stayed
and visited with the family. When it was time for them to get ready to leave,
Genevieve started her notorious crying again and AJ had to drag her away.
Finally some peace and quiet ... With the exception of Maddox still there but
then again, she figured he just felt some sort of guilt for SOMETHING and hung
out until visiting hours were over. 'Kept you from your day.' Janine wrote on
the white board.
"Nah, i stayed
because I wanted to. They are damn good kids."
'And pretty
too.' She smiled.
"Yea ..." He
sighed, "I'm gonna come back and see you before I go on my European tour.
Is that okay?"
She nodded, 'I'll
be here. Thx.'
Maddox hugged her gently
and them left to head back home.

What If - 25 Years Later - 2
PART 2
2 Weeks Later
Only 2 weeks from that day, Janine’s condition deteriorated
rapidly. Even though the cancer had not spread to other organs, it was eating
away at her lungs, leaving her struggling for every breath. Addison was called,
who in turn called Jiselle and AJ. While the other kids went to the hospital to
see Janine, AJ went to his fathers house and knocked on the door. The maid
opened it and AJ strolled in. At 19 years old, AJ was an Oxford student double
majoring in History and Archaeology, enjoying his vacation at home in New York.
In slacks, canvas shoes, white t-shirt, and a button-down left open, he gave a
nod to the maid and put a hand in his pocket to jingle his car keys while he
went to his fathers office. AJ opened the office door, seeing his father with
his new wife, “father … Nameless,” he greeted them while the wife was on his
lap.
“AJ … My name is …”
“Nameless …” He told her but gave her a charming smile, then
wiped it away to look at Antonio, “my mother is dying and it’s your fault.”
Antonio leaned back, “she isn’t dying. She has 2 more weeks
in …”
“My mother is dying.” He paused and swallowed, “she needs a
double lung transplant in the next 2 months or she’s gone.”
Antonio stared at his son, then shooe’d his wife away. Once
she left, he stood, “how did this happen?”
“The doctor says it’s just one of those things. Some people
are that unlucky. I believe all of the stress you’ve put her through came back
to bite her. No, that isn’t a scientific theory but seeing first-hand how
things have been around her since birth, I have no doubt that’s what happened.”
“What do you think I should do? What can I do? Since you
have all the answers …”
“You have unlimited resources. You find a way. Because if my
mother dies … You won’t make it to her funeral.”
Antonio immediately laughed, “threatening your own father?”
“No. I’m threatening the man who treated his wife like a
second class citizen. The same man who treated the children he adopted like
step children. The same man who treated his biological children as if they were
leeches.” Holding his arm up, he pointed a finger at Antonio, “you did this to
her. You fix it, or my brother and I are going to rain hell down on you.”
“I could have you thrown in jail for the threat alone.”
“But you wont,” he turned to leave, “because I’m right.”

With Morphine in her drip, Janine teetered on Euphoria and
plain old sleep. Her worsening condition was visibly getting the best of her.
Due to the chemo and radiation, she’d lost massive amounts of weight as well as
her hair. Janine was down to 80 pounds, bald, weak, but her eyes hadn’t lost
their sparkle. With the window open, she watched the clouds for a bit, then
looked to the mirror opposite her bed and re-positioned the scarf on her head
that Lucky brought her from Chinatown. She hadn’t been able to speak in a week
as it took too much energy that she didn’t have. So, she’d been reduced to
writing or using hand signals. Feeling as good as she could feel, but not
wanting any company, she turned her head away from the door as someone walked in.
Standing at the
entrance, quiet with curiosity playing across his face was Maddox Ames. He had
just finished seeing his ex-wife Sasha who had a fall and was getting surgery
on her ankle and knee. He was dressed in a pair of slacks with a sweater and
blazer. "Janine..." He said quietly.
She'd just
closed her eyes when she heard her name but didn't respond right away. She
wasn't in the mood to be visited by anyone, especially another doctor that
Antonio had begun to smother her with. Eyes still closed, she held up a hand as
if to they'll them to go away.
"I'm sorry
to bother you, but," he paused, "I was walking by from visitingsomeone and saw your name on the door. Janine Hines ... I dated a girl in high
school by that same name and I was hoping ..." He crossed his arms, I was
hoping to catch up with an old friend.
Janine opened
her eyes, then looked in his direction. She smirked, then gave him a thumbs up
as she tried to sit herself up. Then she waved and picked up her dry erase
board and marker from under her pillow.
He walked
closer pulling a chair that was near him up to the bed. "Long time no see,
huh?" He smiled, "what happened sweetheart?" He motioned to the
machines she was hooked up to. Maddox was much more mature than he was
ages ago. Even though he'd grown famous singing talents he'd become more humble
with age as well as more handsome.
With the board,
she wrote, 'lung cancer. Dying. 2 months.' Janine held it up to show him, then
took a tissue and erased it, 'my daughter is a fan.'
Maddox's heart
broke, "what?" He placed a hand on hers, "what is it you
need?" He pauses, "that's sweet, I can sign anything or meet her."
Smiling, 'be here
in 30.' She erased it, 'need lung trans x2.'
"Damn ...
And the goddamn doctors are sitting with their thumbs up their assess?
Ridiculous." He shook his head and then looked to her and kissed her
temple, "you still look beautiful ..." Sitting back, he knew
that had to make her feel better, "how old is your daughter?
She grinned,
using too much energy to stop from laughing. 'Don't want pity. I'm fine.' And
under that, she wrote, '16.'
"Well you
can't die girl..." He smiled, "she's Antonio's right? You two still
together?"
Janine nodded, then held
up her left hand and tapped her empty ring finger. Right after, she held up the
other hand and counted off 5.
"5 kids? That's
amazing. Can't believe you have that many kids with Antonio."
Smiling again, she wrote,
'2 w/ Antonio. Divorced 5 yrs.'
"Ohhh my fault ...
Two kids. Nice. I got married but never had kids. I'm divorced now."
She frowned and wrote.
'Sorry. Why divorce? Miss me?' Smiling, 'joking.'
"She cheated on me with my best friend." He sighed, "said
I put my career before her, didn't want kids and its bull shit. I would love to
have a big family right now. For a man at 42 with everything, I have
nothing."

What If - 25 Years Later
PART 1
New York Memorial Hospital
A doctor walked into Janine Hines’ hospital room with X-Ray
scans in his hands. Behind him came Antonio, Antonio Jr., Addison and Jiselle.
Inside the hospital room with Janine was Genevieve, the youngest Bovin child.
“Think positive thoughts, mom,” Gigi told her mother, then stood up from the
bed and walked to the doctor, standing with the rest of her family.
“This area and this area,” the doctor pointed to the x-rays
of Janine’s lungs. “Cancerous tissues. The trouble breathing she’s been having
is because there is air escaping. The cancer is eating through.”
“Oh please, it’s just asthma,” Janine, 41 years old,
divorced, and lying in bed with a mask on her face, took the mask off and
dropped it to the ground on side of the bed.
“Not my mommy!” Gigi burst into tears right then,
immediately being cradled by her father who was now trying to figure out how to
deal with his upcoming business trips while his childrens’ mother was in the
hospital with cancer.
“I don’t even smoke!” Janine continued.
“Is this early detection or should we be worried?” Jiselle
asked with tears in her eyes.
“We won’t know until we get the Biopsy done to be sure.” The
doctor started, “if its stage 2, or early 3, we can do a combination of chemotherapy
and radiation therapy over the course of 4 weeks. If after the first week
things are not progressing as they should, we’ll also do surgery to help it
along.”
They hung out with the doctor a few more minutes to talk
about what he’d just presented, then paperwork was brought in for Janine to
sign, then Addison, who was named power of attorney in case the worst happened
and decisions needed to be made without her immediate consent. Jiselle and
Genevieve left the room to deal with their rolling emotions while the men stood
around Janine’s bed, Lucky and AJ looking at the papers together, “DNR …” AJ
held onto that one, “we’re not signing this one.”
“Yes … You are.” Janine took a breath and got ready to plead
with him.
“Mother,” AJ sat on her bed, “you’re only 41.”
“Cancer doesn’t care if youre 41 or 4. If it wants you out
of here, you have no choice. If I have to be hooked up to a machine in order to
live, I don’t want to be here. It’s ridiculous.”
“What about us?” Lucky’s face began to turn red. “I won’t
sign it.”
“You don’t have to. I can …”
“Janine, lets think about this.” Antonio finally stepped in.
If Janine died, he would have to deal with Gigi himself. Not that he wouldn’t
want to as Gigi looks a little like him, but a 16 year old girl with a single
father is not the way to live life, especially with a new wife. “Your children
need you.”
“You just don’t want to deal with them yourself,” Janine
rolled her eyes, “they’re grown, Antonio.”
“Gigi can stay with me or Elle,” Lucky said through a
clenched jaw, “but it wont come to that. You can leave, Antonio,” putting the
paperwork in AJ’s hands, he put his hands in his own pockets and walked to the
window. “My mom is sick, I don’t need your bullshit in here right now.”
“I always wondered where your mouth came from. It wasn’t
your mother.”
AJ remained quiet. Caught in the middle as usual. He loved
his father but not the way he treated his siblings or him, for that matter.
After a small stretch of silence, he took a pen and walked the DNR over to
Lucky. Lucky took the pen and signed, giving Janine the peace of mind she
wanted but not disobeying her at the same time. He declined the DNR and stuck
it with the rest of the paperwork to turn in. He and AJ gave each other a nod
and left the room to deal with the doctor. Antonio hovered around Janine’s bed
and she rolled her eyes again, “you can go now. No need to look concerned. Your
girlfriend will be worried that you were gone from her sight for 2 whole
hours.”
He ignored her comment, “the doctor said roughly a month,”
he picked up the mask she’d thrown down earlier and put it on the bed next to
her, “do as the doctors ask. Please,” he paused, “Genevieve will leave for the
London Olympics in a month and a half and I have business to tend to so … I’m
going to get her a car.”
“WHAT? I do NOT want her having a car right now!”
“She is 16. Responsible. She has a license, her grades are
perfect and she needs to get to and from the track and gym for workouts.”
“You could take her!”
“I’m busy.”
“Jiselle will take her. Addison will take her. AJ will take
her … Antonio please. That girl sings ‘Call Me Maybe’ like it’s the only song
ever written. She’s too bubbly for driving.”
“I’ll get her something safe.” Still ignoring his ex-wife,
he kissed Janine on the forehead and left the room.
A few seconds later, Janine heard Jiselle and Gigi in the
midst of an argument with Antonio, leaving Gigi crying … As usual. They came in
the room and Gigi sighed, “I can’t drive with you in the hospital. I’M TOO
WORRIED! What if I hit a dog?”
“I’ll take you.” Jiselle kissed her sister. Jiselle was an
athletic-built 5 foot 10 while Gigi was 5 feet tall, also athletic-built but a
little thicker than her big sister. Her dark brown hair that was generally
wild, curly and unruly, was done only days earlier with a Brazilian Blow Out in
preparation for the Olympics. Now it was flowing down her back to her waist.
Her dark olive skin tone was accentuated with big light brown eyes, a beaming
smile, Antonio’s thin nose, and heart shaped mouth. Gigi was sight for sore
eyes, a sight her brothers, and sometimes Jiselle, paid for dearly, getting in
many fights if one guy said something to her that they didn’t like. But as
sensitive as she was, it was warranted. Jiselle put an arm around her sister
and then smiled at her mother, “everything’s gonna be fine. You’ll be out in
time to come to London with us.”
Janine nodded, “I know.” She sighed, “please save her from
herself,” laughing a bit as she referred to Gigi.
“I’ll do my best.”

Just repeating ...
I know a lot of you are upset about the stories being taken down ... But as I stated in a previous blog post ... I took them down in case I decide to stop paying for the .com ... So if I do decide to stop paying for the .com, no one will be alarmed and the blog will run on it's independent blogspot address. No stories ... Just blog ... Which is what this is ... Other than occasional excerpts. Cool? :-)

New Characters
Here are a few characters we were in the process of using when we stopped.
--------------------------------------
Kena and I were working on a What-If that was what if Maddox found Janine 25 years after he left her in HS. I may post it anyway because it's pretty good and you get a good sense of the kids from that point. They're all so different. Anyway ... This is the child that Janine had with Antonio. Yes, they had Antonio Junior but this is Genevieve Bovin, Janine and Antonio's youngest. She's actually said to be quite athletic but only 5'4'', thick as hell like Janine, but way more toned. She's an Olympic track star, a mommy's girl who never wants to leave home and opposition for when Maddox comes in the picture.
Ever wonder what Black Maddox would be like. This is Evan. He's Gigi's potential boyfriend and Maddox re-incarnated. He's actually just a tad bit thinner than this picture but just as tall as Maddox at 6'4''.
Remember Nicholeous Donovan and the entire house of Colombians that S.E.X was working with at one time? I created this guy to be Janine's husband whenever we got back to writing on those stories. The name I wanted to give him, Dante Espinosa, I ended up giving to Jiselle's husband from the 25 year later What If that I may end up posting pieces of.
